If you choose to head through the Mountain Pass on your way to Moonrise Tower, then you’ll quickly end up heading toward Rosymorn Monastery, a place holding its fair share of secrets. The trickiest to solve is the Blood of Lathander, a legendary weapon locked behind a series of puzzles and challenges.
We’ll show you how to get the Blood of Lathander step-by-step, so you can behold the power of this magic mace.
This is just one of many secrets in Baldur's Gate 3 though, so check out our guides on how to complete the Gauntlet of Shar, finish the masterwork weapon, and open Necromancy of Thay.
Ceremonial weapons puzzle – BG3
The place to start is in the central room on the upper floor of the monastery, where four pedestals sit awaiting weapons. One is already there, you’ll need to find the other three.
Ceremonial Warhammer location
For the Warhammer, jump over the broken floor next to the puzzle room’s entrance. Turn the corner and you’ll see some knotted vines. Climb up them, fight the eagles at the top, and claim the Warhammer from their nest.
Rusty Mace location
While this isn’t a ceremonial weapon, it will fulfill the puzzle’s requirements. From the knotted vines, go down the stairs, break through the barrier, and head towards the rubble. Just by it the Rusty Mace laying next to a skeleton.
Ceremonial Battleaxe location
Near the knotted vines, you’ll notice a glowing door. While you can pass a tricky lockpick check to open it, it’s better to go around the side, using the broken window in the same room as the main puzzle.
You’ll have to fight a Guardian with high defense, however, every time it attacks, it damages itself, so all you really have to do is survive.
Once you have all three weapons, throw them onto their correct platforms to reveal a pouch containing a crest and a clue to the next puzzle.
The secret Créche entrance – BG3
Go downstairs in the monastery, to the main room containing the big statue. Go around the back and you’ll find a secret door that will get you into the Githyanki Créche, meaning you can continue other quests, like finding a Githyanki Egg, while hunting the Blood of Lathander.
The Inquisitor’s chamber – BG3
The next puzzle is in the Inquisitor’s Chamber, but getting there isn’t simple, as the captain seals the entrance as soon as you get near. The gemstone that acts as the key is on the captain, so you’ll need to either pickpocket it or kill the captain to get it. Either way, slot the gem into the console next to the door and it’ll open.
What you do next depends on your priorities. If you want to continue the Githyanki questline then walk forwards and speak to this Inquisitor, this will start a chain of narrative events and potential battles that will take a little while. However, you’ll end up back in this chamber when it’s done to continue the hunt for the mace.
If you want to avoid that for now, run around the edge of the room to the small chamber on the left-hand side.
The rotating statue puzzle – BG3
These two statues need to be rotated in a certain pattern to open the hidden entrance. Note, to turn the left-hand statue, you’ll need to pass an Athletics check, so bring someone good at that.
Turn the statues in this pattern:
- Turn the right-hand statue once.
- Turn the left-hand statue thrice.
- Turn the right-hand statue twice.
Now you can progress into the final chamber for the last challenge.
Secret chamber door puzzle – BG3
You’ll immediately be faced with another one of the magical barrier doors, but the energy crystal is conveniently right there – destroy it and move forwards.
Next you’ll trigger a trap that’ll throw you into turn-based mode. Either disarm it or quickly move out of its area of effect, which stretched out in a cone in front of it. Climb up the rocks to the side of the path and go around the door – the crystal is their to open the second barrier too.
The third section has another trap, and you really need to disarm this one as you have to move in front of it to progress. The third and final energy crystal is below the path, you can go out into the rocks that jut out from the path to hit it with ranged attacks.
You can now reach the mace.
Getting the Blood of Lathander – BG3
Don’t just grab the mace. Even the game warns you that it’s obviously trapped and grabbing it will cause a disastrous event.
Instead, remember the crest you picked up from the pouch earlier? There’s a slot on the mechanism holding the mace where it fits perfectly. Put it in and the traps will disarm, letting you freely take the Blood of Lathander, completing the quest.
Blood of Lathander stats – BG3
This is a legendary-tier +3 mace that’s perfect for any Cleric, one of the best classes in Baldur's Gate 3.
It comes with two huge boons:
- Lathander’s Blessings: Once per long rest, the wielder will be automatically revived with 2-12 HP when they go down, and nearby allies will be healed 1-6 HP.
- Lathander’s Light: Surrounds the wielder in 20ft of holy light that blinds fiends and undead in combat.
It also gives you access to a powerful Level 6 Evocation spell called Sunbeam, which shoots a massive beam of light through anything in its path, dealing huge damage and potentially blinding the targets.
